When I chose this image for a self-portrait, I wasn't consciously choosing to draw something with the theme of yearning. The pose resonated with me, even though I didn't know why at the time.
Now, it speaks to me about vulnerability and different types of yearning - for a lost love, a time long gone - and the melancholy that accompanies that. Yet at the same time, we face it with head held high. We gather the strength to go on.
